Two different women, two different glances. One of them is disapproving, the other one is comforting. Can you see THAT difference?

#this is unfair though #because brienne has had the time to adjust to jamie #she looked at him disapprovingly early on in their relationship #and I’m not sure that’s a fair assesment of cersei’s look #i mean #there’s relief #and then shock#and she understands the weight of the loss of his hand as much as he does #it changes everything in their lives #all the dreaming and planning has to be adjusted now #and yes #there’s the whole he’s not perfect anymore #but to say that cersei doesn’t love jamie is crazy #i feel like people pitting these two women against each other #don’t really understand the characters #or haven’t read the books maybe? #because there’s so much that has been omitted #i just don’t like invalidating either of these relationships

I would never ever ever describe THAT particular expression on Cersei’s face right there in the gif as “disapproving.” It’s a really juvenile word to use for the bond between Cersei and Jaime. These two have literally shared an entire lifetime together and what she hears call her name is her Jaime, but what she sees when she turns around is not her Jaime. He looks down at his missing hand all ashamed, but her reaction right there is not disapproval, it’s straight up horror. Horror for him - as in “what have they done to you?!” - and then for herself. Because he has always been her sword, and the only way she has survived her current situation (forced engagement) is to BELIEVE Jaime will save her; he always has. So what you’re seeing there in that gif is extremely layered and none of it is “disapproving.”

However, it is perfectly apt to describe the way Brienne reacted to Jaime when they first met, when he was still just Kingslayer to her, as disapproving. But then she met Jaime and now they’ve formed a bond that only true brothers in arms can have. They are war vets when they walk into King’s Landing together - war bros! And yes, Brienne’s expression is comforting, it’s perfect because there’s an intense bond between them now. She knows, and will always know, a part of Jaime that Cersei does not know because they’ve survived together. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER. They’re important in their own right, and it would be much more productive to discuss/dissect it all with that in mind!
